The five applique designs above were created using scraps of fabric sewn together "crazy quilt" fashion. Once two pieces of fabric are sewn together, press the seams flat open and then apply decorative stitching using your sewing machines built-in stitches. Keep adding scraps of fabric together until you have a piece large enough to more than cover the design area. Printing a template of the design will help aid with the fabric placement. Use like colored fabrics and different decorative stitching over each seam for a different look such as Applique Star #02 pictured above.
Variations for these designs are numerous depending upon your decorative stitching, fabric, and the layout of your fabric. There are also many uses: decorate pillows, curtains, bedspreads, or clothing. Make a wallhanging, lap quilt, or even a full size quilt. These designs would also look great framed and hung on a wall. Additional embroidery, such as small hearts, small quilt designs, or small florals may also be stitched on top of the applique design.

| Above kitties show different color examples. This design was intended as a pocket topper but would also make a colorful border around a baby blanket, a table topper, or along the open edge of a pillowcase. Bows may be sewn on the tail, the chest, or on top of the head. Two small novelty buttons could also be sewn on the chest area for added detail. |
